Lifelong East Austinite and frequent City Hall presence Johnny Limon passed away over the weekend at the age of 69.

A Tracor retiree, Limon was a frequent presence at City Hall, always advocating in his quiet, kindly, but effective manner for the interests of the East Austin community. A tireless volunteer and advocate, Limon worked for affordable housing in East Austin. He worked with PODER (People Organized in Defense of Earth and Her Resources) dating back to the successful struggle in the early 1990s to remove the polluting gasoline tank farms from East Austin. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Big Brothers, Big Sisters. He also served as a bilingual Santa Claus at Christmas on Calle Limon in East Austin.

We’re going to miss you Johnny. Austin won’t be the same without you.
